THE RIVALRY !

This Friday night the Razorbacks and the Warriors will meet on the gridiron. The coaches of each of these teams will not have to do much to get their players up for this game. It is after all THE RIVALRY - Walhalla vs. West-Oak. Over the last twenty years I have experienced Walhalla vs. West-Oak games in many different sports. As a coach, athletic director and administrator my emotions have run the gamut in each of these contests. This is what makes high school athletics so special. A rivalry game like this is what people remember through the years. There have been some highs in this rivalry as well as some lows, but the majority of these contests ended with both teams leaving everything they had on the court or the field. Recently we have built upon this rivalry, by taking it off the athletic field, to help others in our community. Two years ago we added a book drive competition that helped us collect over 2,000 children’s books for the Walhalla area elementary schools. This year we have expanded to a blood drive competition to see who can get the most pints of blood donated from their community. Walhalla High School’s blood drive is Tuesday, September 9 and West-Oak High School’s is Thursday, September 11. Please help us by dropping in to one of these schools and donating blood. You can also drop off children’s books in the front office.

West-Oak High School has moved up to 3A and out of our region, but we hope that the rivalry will live on. It has been a good one!

As we cheer on our respective teams this week, let us always remember to be good sports. I have reminded many of my players and students over the years that there are little eyes watching everything you say and do. Let them see class, character and good sportsmanship.

GO RAZORBACKS!!!
